Got anything you want to have a rant about?

Something you don't like about life in the village or life in general. As long as it's not going to get the site in hot water and as long as I don't disagree too much with it, then you have a chance of getting it on the site. Send your rants to the local editor.

Maybe now we have Broadband, the BBC will be good enough to provide us with a TV signal and actually give us something in return for the license fee... or am I just being too fussy?

Followed by a rant

If you do visit Elvanfoot, try to help us to keep it tidy. Some people seem to think it is acceptable behaviour to throw their litter out of their vehicle windows either as single items or bundled up in a carrier bag. I can only guess that they haven't been trained properly.

This leaves the verges and lay bys around this area covered with litter. If you happen to be one of these morons who disposes of your rubbish in this way, then just try and think like a normal person. Take your litter with you and dispose of it in a bin. How would you like it if someone visited your street and dumped their rubbish in it?

Your Pages

If you read these pages email the local editor and let us have your comments, good or bad.

( I can just ignore the bad ones ).

If you are local and want to comment on a local issue you can do it here.

If you are not local and just want to poke your nose into our business, then we might let you do it here. Depends on my mood really.

If you feel you have been unfairly slagged off on this site then tell us why, we can apologise, but it really is most unlikely this will happen.

Spot any errors on this site, then go get a hobby you can't plug in, you spend too much time at your computer.

"Safety Scameras"

Heading North on the M74 I've noticed the so called Safety Camera vans are making more regular appearances on the bridges above the Motorway. Regular locations are at the Abington Junction and on the bridge just past Happendon Services. If these scamera vans were all about safety we would see them located in our villages and not on Motorways where they can earn much more money from unsuspecting drivers exceeding the 1970's speed limit on a relatively quiet and safe stretch of three lane motorway. The scamera van sited at Abington parks on the pavement of the bridge, forcing pedestrians to walk onto the road. That's safe !

This underhand method of scamming motorists only serves to alienate the police and is seen by many motorists as a revenue earning exercise which has very little to do with road safety.

 The Wee Noisy Sweeper

I hope the rest of the villagers in Elvanfoot will join me in thanking oor not so local authority, The Cooncil, for putting lovely new white lines on the road a while back.

Perhaps they would also like to thank them for going to the trouble of sending us a wee noisy pavement sweeper doon on a Sunday morning. It might be the afternoon cos it takes that long to get doon here.

Now normally, this effort to keep our pavements clean would be appreciated, but the fact is , we don't have any pavements so I guess this is a type of job creation scheme whereby the wee sweeper brushes away the new white lines and they need done again.

Fact is, the litter we do complain aboot is on the grass verges and not on the road, so the wee sweeper doesn't really achieve much except wake up the lazier of the residents ( you know who you are ) who like their Sunday slumber deep into the afternoon.

So, if someone from the cooncil wants to enlighten the website as to the point of this excercise I'll be happy to pass the information on to the other villagers.

Street Lights

We're really lucky up in the north end of the village. we have the luxury of our street lighting being on from 4 o'clock in the afternoon just in case the sun goes out.

Let's face it, it could happen, and if it does we're prepared. Better being prepared than timing then to come on just before it get's dark.

And it doesn't use up that much extra energy as it's only 5 hours every night throughout the summer. And anyway, there's only about ten lights.

So thanks to whoever runs the lights. We appreciate your thoughtfullness.

Now open

Telford Bridge lorry park is now open. For all you drivers who are too tight to pay for a proper lorry park and want a bit of free parking head along to the bridge. Be quick, as there is only enough space for four 38 ton trucks on the bridge at any one time. Don't worry about flattening the kerbstones or potholing the gravel as the local council tax payers will pick up the tab for that.
